Bechtel center transforming how students create, learn

Bechtel Innovation Design Center

Students, faculty and staff have been settling in to the Bechtel Innovation Design Center (BIDC), a state-of-the-art collaborative learning facility which opened in September 2017.

“The Bechtel IDC is an outgrowth of the need for student project space on campus,” said Matthew Swabey, director of the center. ”It was understood that there was no available [project] space on campus. We discovered support from and by the campus community was tremendous.”

The Purdue Engineering Student Council gave a substantial donation to underscore the need for the BIDC and deans of the College of Engineering and Purdue Polytechnic collaborated to make requests for donations and equipment, Swabey said.

Located at the corner of Third and Russell streets in the middle of Purdue’s Student Success Corridor, the center promotes teamwork, problem-solving and collaboration for students as they design, plan, and build capstone and other projects.
