Purdue EcoMakers wins six awards in first year of EcoCAR 2

The Purdue EcoMakers team received six awards during the the EcoCAR 2 Year One Competition in Los Angeles May 18-23, 2012.

The first year of the three-year competition focused on student plans for their advanced vehicle architectures using modeling and simulation. The competing teams participated in a trade show and delivered numerous presentations to judges during the competition.

In the News: EET majors among top 10 starting salaries

Graduates of the College of Technology’s electrical engineering technology program (EET) earned among the top 10 average starting salaries last year, according to the most recent salary survey conducted by Purdue’s Center for Career Opportunities.

Twenty-seven EET alumni responded to the survey and reported starting salaries ranging from $40,000 to $100,000. The average salary of $59,466 ranks ninth of all degree programs listed in the annual report.

Six Able Flight scholarship winners will arrive at Purdue University May 19 to begin five weeks of intensive flight and ground training, an experience that will change their lives forever. The six men come from all over the country, and though their disabilities and challenges may be varied, they share a passion for becoming a pilot.

EET senior design projects tackle range of challenges

Overcoming classroom barriers. Salting wintry roads with less waste. Powering a lawn mower with water.

Senior design students tackled these projects in ECET 49700 (Project Design and Development, Phase II), which is offered each semester as a capstone course for electrical engineering technology majors.

As lawmakers around the country and world grapple with energy policy and decisions, the College of Technology is preparing its students for a utility landscape that could be much different than today’s. Matt Mckillip is a man on fire. As executive director of Tech Ventures, he has a passion for commercializing ideas, which is vital to Purdue and the surrounding community. The ultimate vision is this: take great ideas, mix in support and expertise, and push the product into the marketplace. This dynamic mixture will help give new discoveries the spark they need to transform from idea to world-changing venture.
