Decisions about faculty promotions and about the award of tenure to faculty members involve a series of reviews. These occur at the department (primary committee), the college (area committee) and the university. This process culminates with final approval by the Board of Trustees. The policies and procedures related to these reviews are described in several documents.
Each year the Provost releases an updated version of the West Lafayette Campus Promotion and Tenure Policy. In addition to this, the Purdue Polytechnic Institute Area Committee provides a handbook, a promotion and tenure template and document pertaining to the development of a portfolio that accompanies the promotion and tenure handbook.
