ECET professor saves the race
When Cub Scout Pack 3338’s Pinewood Derby Timing system failed, they turned to Jeff Richardson, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering technology, for help.
The 386 computer that ran the DOS-based Pinewood Derby timing system failed, which put the annual event in jeopardy for 2013. Richardson volunteered to build a new timing system. He came up with new drag-strip style starting lights, a new IR timing system and a scoring tower.

Administrative appointments, Feb. 2013
James Mohler, Ph.D., has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs and diversity for the College of Technology. He had been serving in the position on an interim basis since the fall of 2011. He is also a professor of computer graphics technology. He earned his bachelor's degree in technical graphics, his master of science in technology and his doctorate in education, all from Purdue University.
Hardwired for Success is theme for 2013 Tech Week
The success of students, faculty and alumni will be showcased during the seventh annual Tech Week hosted by Purdue’s College of Technology. Events are planned Feb. 23-March 1, 2013.
In the news: Ping-Pong balls faster than speed of sound
Mark French, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology, and two of his Ph.D. students have created a supersonic Ping-Pong gun that can shoot a Ping-Pong ball at Mach 1.2 (about 915 miles per hour).
