An interdisciplinary team of Purdue Polytechnic researchers received National Science Foundation (NSF) funding to study how teams of humans and robots will work together at construction sites. The team hopes the NSF grant will serve as the foundation for years of collaborative research to improve the efficiency and scalability of human-robot teams in constrained and complex construction workplaces.

A new partnership with a national college outreach and youth leadership development organization gave Purdue Polytechnic's Nah’Shon Williams, who is majoring in construction management technology, the chance to become a Boilermaker. Williams and 10 other first-year students were selected for scholarships thanks to their academic and leadership potential.

Purdue Polytechnic’s Mark Zimpfer and Luciana Debs developed a new YouTube channel dedicated to residential construction, bringing real-world lessons to classrooms in middle school, high school and college. The project is supported by a grant from the National Housing Endowment.

Through a generous gift from Kiewit, a construction and engineering company, the Purdue College of Engineering and the Purdue Polytechnic Institute will offer the Kiewit Scholars Program at Purdue. Eligible Polytechnic students are rising sophomores, juniors and seniors that demonstrate academic merit, leadership and civic engagement while pursuing degrees in Construction Management Technology, Design and Construction Integration, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Since 2018, Purdue Polytechnic faculty have been collaborating to explore the intersection between learning and work within the context of technology. Through new approaches to education and workforce training and development, their ongoing “Future Work and Learning” research aims to empower employees to take charge of their careers and become active, successful professionals and members of society.

Purdue Polytechnic’s accelerated construction management degree is helping alleviate the shortage of qualified employees in industry. The first graduates of the School of Construction Management Technology’s ”Degree in 3“ program graduated this past May.

Purdue Polytechnic instructors in the School of Construction Management Technology found innovative ways to teach the business of construction management to Purdue students during the pandemic. Their creative tactics included video classes, virtual presentations and cross-departmental collaborations, which earned them Purdue’s award for Exceptional Teaching and Instructional Support.

Purdue Polytechnic’s Anthony Sparkling and Ramyani Sengupta are studying how virtual reality technology could help experienced professionals and potential retirees in the construction industry more efficiently transfer knowledge to next-generation workers.
