Fan Yang, a student working toward a doctorate in construction management technology, has had a wild, years-long journey to get to America. Now that she’s at Purdue, she not only has a story to share, she’s here to learn.

Purdue’s Board of Trustees approved a new online Master of Science degree in geospatial analytics and a new PhD in computer and information technology program. The two new degrees will be offered beginning Fall 2022.

Purdue Polytechnic launched a new Doctorate of Technology distance-learning program tailored to actively employed, working professionals. The new graduate degree program is the first Doctorate of Technology degree offered completely online by a Tier 1 research university.

Customers don’t think much about how their wireless connections happen until they lose the connection or it slows down. Constant wireless coverage and connectivity is a challenge, which is one reason why the wireless offloading company formed by three Technology students is called Challenge Systems.

George Jebran, a Fulbright student from Syria, wrote the following letter to Purdue President Mitch Daniels as he was preparing to graduate with a master's degree in aviation and aerospace management May 10.

The letter garnered him a meeting and photo opp with President Daniels as well as a presidential tweet (posted below Jebran's letter).

Dear President Daniels,

Karthik Sukumar splits his time between teaching, taking classes and completing his master’s thesis on spatial ability in athletes. It doesn’t leave much time for other activities or part-time jobs.

Which is why he is thankful for the funding he receives as a teaching assistant and the Sriver Graduate Scholarship in Computer Graphics Technology. “It is so important. I don't have to worry about the money aspect,” Sukumar said. “I can focus on what I came here to do.”

Cory Nguyen, a graduate student in computer and information technology, has received a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. More than 3,000 people applied, but only 200 are chosen each year.

The NDSEG Fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD) and is intended to increase the number of U.S citizens and nationals specializing in science and engineering aimed at military applications.  Nguyen received his fellowship in the area of computer and computational sciences for his research in cyber and information security.

Erin Bowen, assistant professor in Technology Leadership and Innovation, received the Purdue Award for Excellence in Distance Learning in April 2012.  She received this award for her outstanding efforts in her Measurement and Evaluation for Industry and Technology course, offered for online graduate degrees by the Center for Professional Studies in Technology and Applied Research (ProSTAR) master’s program.
