Karabiyik receives DOJ funding for IoT crime scene investigation training
Umit Karabiyik from our Department of Computer and Information Technology just received funding for a project that will have big implications in how law enforcement are trained to investigate crime scenes:
Teaching K-12 teachers: Purdue workshop aims to build future workforce for the Midwest semiconductor industry
Purdue’s SCalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement in K-12 (SCALE K-12) program welcomed K-12 teachers to West Lafayette for week-long programs to train them how to include microelectronics content in their curricula. It’s part of an initiative by the U.S. Department of Defense to build a domestic semiconductor industry. Professors from three Purdue colleges, including the Polytechnic’s Greg Strimel, are collaborating with faculty at several Midwestern universities to expand SCALE K-12’s reach to 19,000 students in 12 school districts across Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.
NSF funds AI, augmented reality research in Purdue Polytechnic’s aviation programs
The National Science Foundation has just issued its first-ever grant to Purdue Polytechnic’s School of Aviation and Transportation Technology, funding the school’s large-scale AI and mixed-reality research project. Included are over a dozen industry partners and higher ed institutions.
Purdue Polytechnic alumni create ‘smart garden’ home appliance supported by Indiana manufacturing
The company Anu, founded by two Purdue Polytechnic engineering technology alumni, received funding to manufacture seed pods. These pods are part of a larger invention that will bring gardens and personal-sized greenhouses for edible produce into peoples' homes.
NSF grant will address disparities among Black engineering technology students
Anne Lucietto from Purdue Polytechnic's School of Engineering Technology has teamed up with a wide range of researchers to investigate disparities between African American student enrollment in engineering technology compared to other demographic groups. Lucietto was awarded nearly $300,000 by the National Science Foundation to undertake the project.
