S2Hub

The Smart and Sustainable Human Urban Building Systems (S2HUB) Lab advances the scientific understanding of how built environments evolve, adapt, and respond to human decisions. We study the interactions among construction processes, buildings and infrastructure, human behavior, and organizational systems across different spatial and temporal scales.

Our research combines computational modeling, simulation, artificial intelligence, generative design, digital twins, and data-driven methods to uncover the mechanisms behind these interactions. Through this work, we aim to generate knowledge that supports safer, more sustainable, resilient, and human-centered built environments.

Our vision is to help establish a deeper science of the built environment, one that recognizes buildings, infrastructure, people, organizations, and technologies as interconnected and evolving systems. We envision built environments that can better adapt to changing environmental, technological, and societal conditions while supporting human well-being and long-term sustainability. Through fundamental research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education, S²HUB seeks to contribute new ways of understanding how the decisions we make today shape the built environments of the future.
