Advising & Registration Process
Meeting with Your Academic Advisor
- Your assigned academic advisor will reach out each semester through BoilerConnect to invite you to schedule your advising appointment. These meetings are a great opportunity for us to get to know you and your goals, interest and experience so we can provide support throughout your time at Purdue.
- To help you make the most of your advising experience, please plan to arrive on time for your scheduled appointment. Arriving at your scheduled appointment time will ensures you'll have the full opportunity to connect with your advisor. If your plans change, you can easily reschedule through BoilerConnect or by emailing your advisor so we can continue to support you at the time that works best for you.
- You may also schedule additional appointments at any time through BoilerConnect if you have questions or need to reach your Polytechnic advisor.
Preparing for Your Advising Session
Before your meeting, please:
- Review your MyPurdue Plan and/or your Smart Plan for accuracy
- Decide how many credit hours you plan to take next semester
- Create a list of preferred courses and alternates
- Make sure you meet all the prerequisites for the courses you plan to request
- Consider when you expect to graduate
- Evaluate your career goals
Registration Appointment Policy
- One registration appointment must be scheduled per semester or term
- Appointment cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance. Extenuating circumstances (e.g., illness or an unexpected personal concern) will be considered when this policy is not met. In this circumstance, the ability to schedule another appointment during the preregistration period is not guaranteed and is based on advisor availability prior to the Pre-Registration deadline
- If you are ill or an unexpected circumstance arises, contact your advisor if a virtual appointment could be an option
- To help us make the most of your advising session, please plan to arrive on time. If you're more than 5 minutes late, we may need to reschedule so you can receive the full attention and support you deserve.
- Missed appointments, especially in the absence of prior notice, may restrict your ability to schedule further registration appointments prior to open registration
What to Expect in an Advising Session?
Topics typically covered include:
- Progress toward degree completion
- Recommended courses for the upcoming term
- Academic/degree planning and career development
- Academic standing and performance
- Internships, career fairs, and other opportunities outside the classroom
- Any additional questions or concerns you may have
Important: Your Registration PIN and/or Course Request Form will not be released until you meet with your assigned academic advisor for Registration
Please monitor your account for registration holds and clear them before the Course Request Form (CRF) Deadline
Preregistration Steps
Before the Course Request Form (CRF) deadline:
- Meet with your assigned academic advisor to review and finalize course selections
- Ensure your Course Request Form (CRF) is complete and accurate, including alternates
- Confirm any registration holds are cleared by the batch deadline listed on your Advisor Recommendation Form
- Submit your CRF by the deadline, including your advisor's notes and the reasoning behind it
- Save an electronic copy of your final submitted CRF. If there is a glitch in the system, you or your advisor will be able to better advocate in the event you do not receive a schedule of classes

After Schedules Are Released
Once your schedule is available:
- View it in myPurdue
- Register for Classes → Scheduling Assistant
- Select your term
- Choose “Time Grid” to view your weekly layout
- Distance/online courses appear at the bottom of the grid
- View it in Navigate 360 App
- Applications – Class Schedule
- Choose either Class List or Schedule View
- It is your responsibility to verify that you received the courses you requested. If you are missing a course, you should work with your advisor on registration or alternate courses
- Confirm your enrollment. (This is done in myPurdue on the financial tab once fees are assessed)
- Pay your fees by the posted due date A fee statement will not appear until you register
- Monitor your schedule periodically in Scheduling Assistant-course times or offerings may change
- Check your Purdue email regularly for notifications about schedule updates
