Eric Matson, a professor in computer and information technology at Purdue Polytechnic, has been named a recipient of Purdue’s 2024 Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Award. This recognition, presented by Purdue’s Global Academic Committee, highlights faculty and staff who foster meaningful global connections through academic, research, and outreach efforts.

Matson has a storied history as a liaison to Korean partners over his time at Purdue. He was instrumental in establishing the Korean Software Square Project in late 2015, whereby Purdue welcomes 80 to 120 undergraduate scholars from South Korea each year.

Vijay Raghunathan, the vice president of global partnerships and programs and the director of semiconductor education at Purdue, stated that Matson’s contributions have gone well beyond student exchange in more recent times. Matson has also facilitated research collaborations with Korean government agencies and companies, resulting in a “truly commendable” figure of “over $9 million in grants,” Raghunathan said.

The Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Award includes a $2,500 discretionary grant, intended to further initiatives in learning, discovery, or community engagement.

Matson and the other awardees will be recognized during International Education Week, taking place from November 13–17, 2024. Further announcements regarding the full set of awards will be featured in Purdue Today, celebrating faculty and staff whose work aligns with Purdue’s strategic goals for global outreach and engagement.

Last year, Purdue Today emphasized that the Outstanding Leadership in Globalization award aligned with “Purdue’s Next Moves,” which promotes “world-changing research and transformative education.”
