
Dr. Kevin J. Rose is an associate professor of Organizational Leadership and Human Resource Development (HRD) in the Department of Technology Leadership and Innovation at Purdue University’s Polytechnic Institute. His research examines the intersection of adult education and HRD, with particular emphasis on leadership, organizational citizenship behaviors, workplace mentoring, and the effects of dysfunctional leadership on employees and organizations. Across his scholarship, Dr. Rose seeks to connect theory with practice, advancing knowledge while shaping strategies that improve learning, performance, and well-being in diverse organizational contexts.
He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in leading outlets such as Human Resource Development Quarterly, Human Resource Development Review, and Advances in Developing Human Resources. His most recent scholarship addresses faculty motivation and burnout, curriculum alignment with professional standards, and the experiences of LGBTQ+ employees under dysfunctional leadership. His cumulative grant portfolio exceeds $2 million, including support from the National Science Foundation and institutional partners. Current projects explore professional development for paraeducators, the impact of remote and hybrid work on technical professionals, and strategies to support women faculty of color in STEM.
At Purdue, Dr. Rose teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in managerial training and development, global leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. He also serves as the lead faculty for the Human Resource Development graduate certificate program, guiding curriculum design and program outcomes. A dedicated educator, he has been recognized multiple times by students as a “Faculty Favorite” and honored with awards for teaching innovation and mentorship. He has also led curricular development initiatives, including revisions to graduate programs and new course design in organizational leadership.
Dr. Rose contributes actively to the HRD profession through service and editorial leadership. He serves on the editorial board of Human Resource Development Review and as an editor for the proceedings of the University Forum for Human Resource Development. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) and has chaired and participated in numerous academic committees. His professional service has been recognized with national awards, including the Elwood F. Holton III Research Excellence Award and the Cutting Edge Research Award from AHRD.
Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. Rose held faculty and leadership roles at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and the University of Louisville. He earned his Ed.D. in Workforce Development Education from the University of Arkansas, where his dissertation examined the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviors and performance outcomes in higher education.
