Dr. Cory has been teaching Construction Graphics for the last 30 years and is currently an Associate Professor at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He received his Associate of Applied Science in Building Construction Management, a Bachelor of Science in Technical Graphics and a Master of Science in Education Computing from Purdue University. Clark's primary professional responsibility is undergraduate instruction in architectural and construction graphic communication and visualization. He is currently continues to develop& improve the Construction Graphics Communication specialty area within the School of Construction Management Technology & Computer Graphics Department at Purdue. Clark has had over 40 years experience in the AEC industry with positions ranging from general laborer to project manager of 25 residential structures per year.
Dr Cory has taught a multitude of courses (total of 30 courses- 6 graduate and 24 undergrad) over the years starting with blueprint reading and traditional CAD - transitioning into utilization of computers for Raster graphics and animation and has since moved into 3D modeling for the ease of estimating, managing, and scheduling buildings in the construction process. He has singlehandedly researched and developed all BIM courses at Purdue within CGT. Clark has always challenged himself to be updated on current technology by reading and participating in workshops to ever increase his knowledge to current AEC trends and utilization. This constant learning has developed research interest which include Construction 4.0 technologies to develop a new curriculum, helping students understand current technological trends in the workforce. He is also interested how AI can be integrated into currently curricula as well as in the workforce.
Construction 4.0 is the evolution of Building Information Modeling and includes such advanced technologies as:
-
BIM
-
Internet of Things (IoT)
-
Cloud Computing and project management
-
Horizontal and Vertical systems integration
-
Big Data Analytics and Visualization
-
Simulations
-
AR/VR
-
Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing (small and large scale)
-
Robotics
-
Laser Scanning
-
AI-- which is a new and exciting area for Construction
Artificial Intelligence, a truly disruptive technology that can simulate and change human intelligence processes, and could demonstrate the potential to revolutionize education and industrial practices. By integrating AI, we can leverage its capabilities in various ways:
-
Personalized Learning
-
Student Support and Engagement
-
Assessment and Feedback
-
Curriculum Design and Adaptation
In Industry- AI could potentially help professionals in a multitude of areas:
-
Safety
-
Planning and design
-
Project management
-
Resource management
-
Quality control
-
Predictive maintenance
-
Autonomous vehicles
-
Real-time collaboration
-
Sustainability
-
Even proposal creation for company bids
In addition to professional experience, teaching, and research; Clark is currently involved in industry/educational partnerships with industrial companies such as Holder Construction, Saterfield & Pontikes and a dozen AEC companies ranging from general construction to MEPF and Structural. All research and networking to develop and promote construction visualization, multimedia, computer-based training products, AEC illustration, and smart house technology.
Finally, Clark is an active member in BIM Coordinators Community, Information Visualization , National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Association of Builders in Construction (ABC), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Professor Cory's publications include topics on the improvement of cognitive visualization in construction using 3D models, the impact of new technology , and smart house technology. His presentations include national and international conferences.
