John Springer is a Professor in the School of Applied and Creative Computing at Purdue University. His main research interests are in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence with focus on the application of machine and deep learning to Cybersecurity and Biomedical Sciences, and he serves as the leader of the Purdue DATA Laboratory. Dr. Springer currently serves in a variety of leadership roles at Purdue; these include as the co-chair of Purdue’s Applications in Data Science Curriculum Committee. Additionally, he is extensively involved with the Purdue Military Research Institute (PMRI); his roles with PMRI include organizing PMRI's annual symposium. Dr. Springer also led the Information Security Research and Education (INSuRE) project from 2016-2019; INSuRE is a national consortium of universities, governmental organizations, and laboratories that cooperatively engages students in addressing cybersecurity research problems.

He served as an Assistant Professor at Purdue from 2006 to 2011, an Associate Professor at Purdue from 2011 to 2019, and the Assistant Department Head for Graduate Education and Research in the Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) from 2015-2017. He also served as the CIT Data Management Curricular Area chair from 2006-20016, the Software and Data Curricular Subcommittee chair in CIT from 2016-2021, the CIT Graduate Education Committee chair from 2020-2023, and the CIT Undergraduate Curriculum Committee co-chair from 2018-2025. He has also been a member of Purdue’s Graduate Council and its University Senate.
