What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I grew to have a strong interest in web design from taking multiple art and technology related classes when I was younger. This and my curiosity about psychological topics led me to web development and UX design because of their cross-disciplinary approaches.

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

One of my favorite things about UX design is our Experience Studio. In this class, we can get real-world experience by working on semester-long projects with companies and organizations. I enjoy learning from professionals and working alongside classmates who are also able to teach me a lot.

What has been on of your favorite class projects?

So far, my favorite class project has been working on the redesign of the Indiana Cancer Consortium website. I enjoyed the team I was on and how much I learned from them. Also, our sponsors in the project were amazing and helped make this project go smoothly.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

Here at Purdue, I am the curriculum director for Girls Who Code and a member of STEMPower. I also enjoy bouldering at the CoRec.

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I would say to look into the different labs here that are UX design-related. I did not know of them earlier on, but they are each led by different professors who you may or might not have in your classes. Either way, it would be great to reach out to any one of them since they specialize in different fields that may pique your interest. You can also just reach out to them for any general questions you have about UX Design!

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

Do your best in creating meaningful connections and experiences while you're here at Purdue because there are so many opportunities that you can earn! Learn as much as you can from your classes and ask those questions. Meet someone new and make plans. Also, remember to take care of yourself and know when to take breaks!
