What made you decide to choose your specific major?
My whole life I have been creative, starting from when I was in elementary school attempting to write books and draw comics. As I got older my creativity was focused on music and that became my main passion. Simultaneously, I became fascinated by technology and computer science, specifically front end and web design. UX was the perfect way to combine my creative side with my love for technology.
What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
Graduating with 3.5 years of industry experience is definitely a huge upside of the Purdue UX program. Also, getting to work with real companies as sponsors in our Experience Studio is super cool and prepares us a ton for joining the work force.
What has been on of your favorite class projects?
My favorite class project so far was my Experience Studio project last semester. My team got to design a new screenshot sharing feature for the WalterPicks betting analytics app.
What other activities are you involved in on campus?
I love to play the trumpet! I am a part of this semesters Concert Band ensemble and I will be auditioning again for the Boiler Brass men's basketball band which I was in last year. Additionally, I am a member of the bodybuilding club and I frequently play basketball and pickleball on campus.
What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
That I have to code! Jokes aside, I wish I knew how much of a broad skillset you can develop while studying UX. In my first year, I have honed skills like front end programming, image and graphics editing, research, design, and more.
What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
Purdue has endless opportunities you have to get involved. Everywhere you look there's a callout or opportunity to become a part of something, whether it's recreational or academic. No matter what niche hobby or interest you have, there's likely a group of students you can join and relate to.
