What made you decide to choose your specific major?
I decided on my major specifically because I was passionate about staying informed and understanding the systems and technology I use in my everyday and work-life.
What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
Some of my favorite things about majoring in cybersecurity at Purdue is the variety of concepts and situations I gain experience in. I love getting to learn how to use the tools the professionals use from my very first lab session and being given the opportunity to be hands on in lab right from the start gives me the confidence in my ability and experience.
What has been on of your favorite class projects?
My personal favorite project was a flight operations system I designed in my very first semester. I learned so much about system design as well as database design. I thoroughly enjoyed forming a greater understanding of databases and thinking of how I can apply my knowledge to personal projects and new concepts in the future.
What other activities are you involved in on campus?
I enjoy playing IM basketball ad well as being involved at the LCC from time to time.
What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
I wish I knew how much relies on me fueling my own curiosity and not falling for the easy trap of just getting assignments done, rather focusing on understanding the concepts I'm learning about and being tested on. If you just focus on getting stuff done, you will get them done, but you have learned very little.
What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
One piece of advice I'd give for prospective or new students is to BE INVOLVED. Try anything and everything, you'll never know what things you might be passionate about or the amazing people you might meet from being involved in a club, whether it be a professional or social one.
