What made you decide to choose your specific major?

I chose the Polytechnic Institute because I wanted a hands-on, applied learning environment where I could work on real world projects instead of just hearing about theory in lectures. The Polytechnic's approach felt more collaborative, more project-focused, and more aligned with the way I like to learn. I chose to pursue UX Design because I've always been interested in the intersection of design, psychology, and technology, and this program offered the perfect balance between technical depth and practical application.

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?

One of my favorite things is how much teamwork is built into the curriculum. I get to collaborate with classmates on real problems, providing me industry experience to demonstrate to potential employers.

What has been on of your favorite class projects?

My favorite project so far was the Experience Studio, where we worked on a semester-long client-based project. It pushed me both creatively and technically, allowing me to apply UX design concepts I'd learned in other classes to a professional setting. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of how UX practices are applied across different challenges and industries.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?

I'm involved in Scope Consulting, where I've been able to work with student teams on real consulting projects and further develop my problem-solving and communication skills.

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?

I wish someone had told me just how much collaborating with upperclassmen could assist in expanding you skills set. Take the opportunity to learn from the upperclassmen when collaborating with them in your projects. I also didn't realize how many opportunities there would be (clubs, projects, labs, and industry connections) and that taking advantage of those early on makes a huge difference. The program is what you make of it, and getting involved early makes it way more rewarding.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?

Connect with your major's alumni! They can offer insight into where the industry is heading and help you understand which skills to focus on. Building those relationships early can open doors and guide your growth throughout your time at Purdue.
