This program is designed to support students in learning about emerging technologies in the context of the global market, understanding how history, culture, and society influence technology infrastructure, acceptance, and adoption across locations. Put simply, what makes for good design is dependent upon particular histories, existing infrastructure, cultural norms, and policy landscapes. We focus on design for disability because this context is the best for evaluating mismatches between societies, their technologies, and individual bodies. Further, the disability context requires a detailed understanding of local policies and frameworks which deeply influence the possibility of certain technologies coming to market.
