Purdue Polytechnic marketing team earns top honors in international MarCom Awards

The Office of Marketing and Communications at Purdue Polytechnic has been recognized with several Marcom Awards, granted by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP). MarCom Awards were given to the team for their work in video production, digital media and recruitment materials. The team secured two platinum awards—the competition's highest honor—as well as two gold awards and two honorable mentions.

AMCP announces the MarCom Awards annually; it is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals.

Purdue Polytechnic’s Office of Marketing and Communications’ platinum awards went to two video projects. “Step into a World of Possibilities," a visually compelling and detailed overview of the college, was honored for effectively highlighting the college's hands-on approach and its mission to empower students to take giant leaps in their careers. It is designed to speak to student perspectives, and to inspire them to become the next generation of "dreamers, creators and trailblazers."

Likewise, the "Industry-Ready, Day One" alumni video series was awarded platinum. These videos are a series of profiles, showcasing graduates currently working at high-tech companies in trailblazing industries. Kevin Dillon (Flexjet), Kaileen Kraemer (Pipeworks Studios, Disney Animation) and Candice Nash (Toyota) were selected as picture-perfect subjects to illustrate the real-world value and expertise bestowed by a Purdue Polytechnic degree. Both video projects were the result of a deep collaboration with Utah-based producer Metcom Studios. Metcom was a precise, creative and inventive partner throughout the entire filming process.

The team earned gold awards for a major digital infrastructure project and a complex set of recruitment materials. First, the newly redesigned Purdue Polytechnic website was recognized for its comprehensive overhaul—a massive project led by assistant director of marketing and communications Zachary Rodimel. The prior version of the website contained 13 years of material, totaling approximately 12,000 individual pages. In addition to a radical redesign of both visuals and functionality, the new website also streamlined this content down to approximately 2,300 pages.

The college's swag boxes for newly-admitted students also took home gold. These packages are sent to accepted students to welcome them to Purdue University, and to build excitement for their incoming semester. The entire package is contained within a branded box designed by graphic designer Payton Drake depicting the Boilermaker Express, and includes a welcome letter as well as a range of swag items (including Purdue beanies, pens, stickers and keychains).

Honorable mentions were awarded to the college's recruitment viewbook (a print piece given to visiting families to provide a 30,000-foot view of the college and opportunities therein, produced under the leadership of director Heather Boswell) and an episode of its podcast, Techies Today. The winning episode, "Maximizing Our College's Value," featured distinguished professor and former college Dean Gary Bertoline in an interview with senior digital media specialist John O’Malley (with a focus on the college’s 2015 transformation).

Purdue Polytechnic’s Office of Marketing and Communications’ vision is to strengthen and clarify the college’s identity, build awareness of the college and drive engagement to bring in newcomers to the college’s audiences. The 2025 Marcom Awards show the types of projects that the office uses to achieve these goals, and how the team works across a multitude of media platforms, from Purdue Polytechnic’s website itself, to physical mailers sent directly to families and students and audio/visual storytelling.

The Office of Marketing and Communication team members who contributed to the winning projects include:

  • Heather Boswell, Director
  • Zach Rodimel, Assistant Director
  • John O’Malley, Senior Digital Media Specialist
  • Payton Drake, Graphic Designer
  • Miah Moore, Communications and Social Media Specialist
  • Nick Pompella, Senior Content Strategist
