Purdue University's online Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision (MSOLS) is launching several noncredit-to-credit pathways that will give professionals more opportunities to earn credits toward a master's degree or graduate certificate.

The new pathways allow students who have taken certain online professional development courses at Purdue and associated institutions to earn graduate-level credit for those courses. The credits can then be applied to the online MSOLS and online graduate certificates in Human Resource DevelopmentProject Management and Technical Communication

The Purdue courses included in the pathway are:

  • Project Management Essentials Certificate
  • PMP® Exam Prep
  • Project Management Professional
  • Agile Certificate

Also included in the pathway are several professional development courses offered by various project management and training associations, including the Project Management Institute, the International Society for Performance Improvement, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Human Resource Certification Institute, the Association for Talent Development and the International Coaching Federation.

Through this pathway, Purdue aims to help professionals access more learning opportunities and save time and money toward a graduate degree or certificate. By taking professional development courses that translate to graduate credit, professionals can build in-demand skills and work toward a valuable credential.

“We are pleased to recognize the time, energy and commitment that professional development requires,” said Corinne Renguette, associate professor in Purdue University in Indianapolis' Department of Technology Leadership and Innovation. “To translate that into credit that can help students accomplish their academic goals faster.”

Earning a master's degree or graduate certificate can provide a strong return-on-investment by increasing professionals' earning potential and job security. A graduate-level degree or certificate can also make them more competitive for promotions and new roles.

Purdue's online MSOLS degree prepares professionals for success in project management, human resources, corporate training and related industries by teaching them how to apply strategic leadership and decision-making processes, lead change and organizational innovation, build high-performing teams, resolve conflict, communicate with impact, and improve performance. Online students take courses developed and delivered by faculty on Purdue's flagship campus, and they earn the same degree as on-campus students.

Purdue also offers online graduate certificates in Human Resource Development, Project Management and Technical Communication. Each certificate requires nine credit hours, and all credits can be applied to the online MSOLS. Graduate certificates are a streamlined way for professionals to build in-demand skills in less time than a traditional master's program, and they allow professionals to earn graduate credit without committing to a full degree.
