Scott Hutcheson release new book, ‘Biohacking Leadership’: ‘become a more intentional, effective leader’

Scott Hutcheson, a biosocial scientist and senior lecturer at Purdue Polytechnic, has published a new book that offers a bold, science-based approach to leadership. The book, titled “Biohacking Leadership: Leveraging the Biology of Behavior to Maximize Your Impact,” was co-authored by Matthew D. Jones and released by publisher Wiley on July 16, 2025.

The book introduces a novel framework called "leadership biodynamics," which examines leadership through the lens of behavioral biology and neuroscience. It challenges traditional leadership models by arguing that effective influence is not based on personality, but on observable behaviors that can be learned and optimized.

"My aim with ‘Biohacking Leadership’ is to show that leadership isn’t about personality. It’s about biology," Hutcheson said. "By understanding the behaviors that signal warmth, competence, and gravitas, readers can learn to send clearer signals, create stronger connections, and maximize their impact. I hope readers come away with practical ways to use the biology of behavior to become more intentional and effective in how they lead."

The book presents its insights in an accessible and actionable way, drawing analogies from nature—such as the roles of keystone species like beavers, wolves, and sea stars—to illustrate principles of balance, inclusivity, and shared value.

The book has already garnered high praise from leaders in academia and business. Ross C. Alexander, President and CEO of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, called it a "unique, refreshing, and intriguing take on leadership success," adding that Hutcheson "identifies its core elements upon which successful leaders can build." Author Greg Satell noted that Hutcheson "unveils a groundbreaking approach that merges neuroscience, behavioral biology, and leadership strategy to help you become a more adaptive, influential, and high-impact leader.”

Hutcheson hopes the book provides a clear path for leaders to scale their influence effectively. "From sending signals to shaping systems, behavior is the lever that scales impact: from individuals, to teams, to organizations, to ecosystems," he said. "My goal with ‘Biohacking Leadership’ is to give readers the tools to understand and apply these principles, so they can lead in ways that are both scientifically grounded and immediately actionable."
