Walqer Cane

The use of a cane helps many individuals achieve “a more natural reciprocal gait pattern with the opposite arm and leg moving together and provide an increased base of support” (Elsevier, 2023). Along with that “single-tip canes have also been found to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis” (Elsevier, 2023). What Walqer plans to do with their specific cane is to address the knee adduction moment (KAM), so the user will have a more stable gait and pain-free walking motion.

Team 9 - Endress+Hauser Imagination Station Museum Unit

The final design features a 50-gallon fish tank that has been modified to house a wave tank, and a overflow splash area. For the wave tank, waves are produced mechanically through a wedge that is moved up and down by the student. This allows for the student to choose the wave height and speed. The waves can be broken up by breakwaters placed in the tank before the splash wall. Above this zone is the Micropilot, which uses radar to measure the height in the wave.

Team 7 - Honda Bumper Paint Ground Checker

The Indiana Auto Plant is an automobile manufacturing facility operated by Honda in Greensburg, Indiana. The plant opened in 2008 and produces Honda Civic compact cars, as well as Honda CR-V SUVs since 2017. They utilize an advanced electrostatic paint application process for their bumper line. Plastic bumper components must have a path to ground for static dissipation. Ensuring compliance with industry standards, the plant adheres to the NFPA 33-11.3.5 regulation, which specifies that bumpers must have a resistance to ground of 1MΩ or less.

Team 6: 80/20 Aluminum Mobile Workstation

In conjunction with the Bechtel Innovation Design Center at Purdue, our team aims to produce an easy to use and safe mobile workstation that is able to cut and machine 80/20 aluminum between 90 and 45 degrees. Workstations like these aim to help manufacturing facilities further improve their automation processes. This project will lead to further automation in the manufacturing sphere and help businesses improve their manufacturing efficiencies.

Team 6 Amazon Spillage and Containment

The Amazon Fulfillment Centers are in need of a solution to reduce liquid amnesty, unknown risks product, quality culture, lack of standards, operations maintenance, and engineering dichotomy. Evaluate the current system and find the root cause of spillage and where we can implement solutions to prevent or eliminate spillage from happening and/or contain it when it occurs in a cost-effective manner and minimizes the human element during the high-pressure time constraints windows such as the 2-hour slam window.

Team 3: Amazon AMIV Project

Businesses that prioritize logistics invest heavily in conveyor systems to move and sort packages they ship. Conveyors are composed of many mechanical subcomponents such as bearings, belts, motors, and pulleys. When these subcomponents fail, they can damage the system, leading to downtime for the entire conveyor line, and result in late delivery of packages to customers. Amazon is looking to implement an autonomous maintenance identification unit to detect the failures of these components before they happen.

Team 35 - Design a 3D Printer

3D printers are a recently developed technology that is still being added to and will most likely continue to be added to in the coming years. With newer developments towards 3D printing comes a continuous flow of interested people. Creating a basic understanding of the construction and rudimentary teachings on how to use a 3D printer is paramount to those who come to share the intrigue of 3D printing. Having a hands-on experience with building a 3D printer is not easily accessible to most people, however, and is more costly than most can afford.

Team 34 BorgWarner Fixture Cleaner

BorgWarner must routinely perform a type of test known as Salt Spray. The test involves strapping the device under test, henceforth referred to as the DUT, into a test fixture to secure the DUT in place. The DUT and fixture are then placed in a sealed test chamber and sprayed with salt water to simulate conditions a vehicle may experience near large bodies of salt water. While the DUT is expected to survive the test undamaged, the problem involves the amount of both physical and monetary waste generated from performing salt corrosion tests on 6061 billet Aluminum at BorgWarner.
