Dr. Andy Schaffer is Associate School Head for Faculty Affairs in the School of Engineering Technology, and Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering Technology. His primary teaching responsibility is IET 33400, "Economic Analysis for Technology Systems". He offers this course online every semester to students at all Polytechnic Statewide Locations.
Prior to his current administrative assignment at Purdue, Dr. Schaffer served as Associate Dean for Polytechnic Statewide, and before that he served as Director of Purdue Polytechnic New Albany.
Andy earned his Bachelor of Science Degree "with highest distinction" from the College of Technology at Purdue University, West Lafayette. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree "with distinction" at the University of Louisville, and earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration at The Ohio State University. His Doctoral program emphases were Organization Theory and International Business.
Before joining Purdue, Andy was Associate Professor of Management and Assistant Department Head in the School of Business at the University of North Georgia. Prior to the North Georgia assignment he was Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership at IUPUI in Indianapolis.
Before embarking on his career in academia, Andy was Director of U.S. Production Operations Development for United Distillers (now Diageo), the American whiskey subsidiary of Guinness, PLC, in Louisville, KY. He also served in the United States Air Force on active duty as a computer technologist and maintenance supervisor, and he served in the Indiana Army National Guard in Evansville, IN.
Dr. Schaffer has received numerous awards and recognition in his academic career including Outstanding Faculty in Engagement in the Department of Technology Leadership & Innovation at Purdue; Rookie of the Year and Faculty of the Year awards at the University of North Georgia; and the Trustees' Teaching Award and the Outstanding Teacher Award at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. He is published in a variety of outlets including the Journal of Engineering Technology, Journal of Management Education, and Journal of Business and Management.
