Dr. Farid Breidi joined the School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University as an Assistant Professor in Aug 2020. Farid received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering degree from the American University of Beirut in 2010, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012, and his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Purdue University in 2016. His Ph.D. research was in the area of fluid power, dynamic systems and controls. Prior to his appointment at Purdue, Farid was as an Assistant Professor in Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana from 2016 to 2020.
The primary focus of Farid's research is modeling and design of fluid power and mechanical systems. He is interested in integrating machine learning and data analytics to improve the efficiency and performance of conventional and digital fluid power systems. His goal is to improve the energy efficiency and the functionality of hydraulic systems through (1) improved system components and (2) integration of smart components into well integrated systems. Farid is also active in conducting pedagogical research, where his team focuses on improving the educational experience of students through the development of educational demonstrators.
