Dr. J. Michael Davis is a Professor of Aeronautical Engineering Technology in the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University. His teaching and scholarly expertise include aircraft powerplant technology, aviation maintenance, aviation fuels, advanced manufacturing, and emerging aerospace technologies.
Dr. Davis serves as the Director for the FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Curriculum, providing leadership in aviation maintenance education, regulatory compliance, and curriculum development. He served as the Area Director of Test Cell Operations for the federally funded National Test Facility for Fuels and Propulsion (NaTeF), where he supported research and testing initiatives focused on aircraft propulsion systems and aviation fuels.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across Aviation and Transportation Technology and Purdue University, Dr. Davis has conducted extensive research on the evaluation, development, and implementation of alternative aviation fuels for both piston-powered and turbine-powered aircraft. His work has contributed to advancing sustainable fuel technologies and improving operational effectiveness within the aviation industry.
In addition to his academic and research responsibilities, Dr. Davis maintains several industry-recognized professional credentials. He holds an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, an FAA Private Pilot Certificate, the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential, and a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Through his leadership in aviation education, applied propulsion research, and industry engagement, Dr. Davis has established a reputation as a recognized contributor to aviation maintenance education, aircraft propulsion systems, and aviation fuels research.
