Thomas K. Eismin is a professor of Aviation and Transportation Technology and has been teaching at Purdue University since 1977. Professor Eismin's primary interests include aircraft power distribution systems and the advanced electronic technologies found on modern computerized aircraft. He specializes in avionics (aircraft electronics) systems, including navigation systems, integrated flight instruments, central maintenance computers, and flight management systems. Professor Eismin is considered an expert in the field of electronics, having authored two internationally recognized textbooks: Aircraft Electricity and Electronics and Avionics Systems and Troubleshooting. Professor Eismin has held (or currently holds) a variety of Federal Aviation Administration ratings, including an Inspection Authorization (IA), an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics Certificate (A& P), a Designated Mechanic Examiner Certificate (DME), and a Private Pilot Certificate, with Instrument and Lighter-Than-Air ratings. He has numerous publications and national presentations relating to aviation electronics, education and technology.
Professor Eismin is an excellent researcher, communicator and problem solver. Using extensive knowledge gained during years of experience in the aviation industry, he provides expertise for legal, educational, industrial and government agencies. Mr. Eismin is a member of several national aviation organizations, served as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Avionics Education, provided guidance for educational accreditation, performed duties as expert witness, and was selected as an avionics education expert for a Federal Aviation Administration Blue Ribbon Panel. Professor Eismin's experience makes him a premier member of the Purdue University faculty and an asset to the entire aviation industry.
