John Springer is a Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) at Purdue University. His main research interests are in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence with recent focus on the application of machine and deep learning to Cybersecurity, and he serves as the leader of the Purdue DATA Laboratory. Dr. Springer currently serves in a variety of leadership roles at Purdue; these include as the co-chair of the CIT Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the co-chair of Purdue’s Integrative Data Science Initiative (IDSI) Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Springer also led the Information Security Research and Education (INSuRE) project from 2016-2019; INSuRE is a national consortium of universities, governmental organizations, and laboratories that cooperatively engages students in addressing cybersecurity research problems. He served as an Assistant Professor at Purdue from 2006 to 2011, an Associate Professor at Purdue from 2011 to 2019, and the Assistant Department Head for Graduate Education and Research in CIT from 2015-2017. He also served as the CIT Data Management Curricular Area chair from 2006-20016, the Software and Data Curricular Subcommittee chair in CIT from 2016-2021, and the CIT Graduate Education Committee chair from 2020-2023. He has also been a member of Purdue’s Graduate Council and its University Senate.
