Tianyi Li is an Assistant Professor in the School of Applied and Creative Computing at Purdue University. Her research lies at the intersection of human–computer interaction, human-centered AI, and sociotechnical computing. She studies how people understand, use, adapt to, and collaborate with AI in learning, sensemaking, decision-making, and AI-supported creation.
Her work designs and evaluates human–AI collaborative systems that preserve meaningful human agency, judgment, and accountability. Her current research focuses on AI-assisted citizen development, AI-augmented learnersourcing and computing education, and community-centered applications of AI. She integrates design, experimental, and computational methods to develop AI systems that align with people's goals, capabilities, and evolving expertise.
