Noori Kim, assistant professor of engineering technology in Purdue University’s Polytechnic college, and Seung Ki Moon, associate professor and assistant chair for research in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), met at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus and in the Purdue Research Park to discuss research on the potential use of acoustic systems and data within multimodal sensing approaches.
Moon shared insights from his ongoing work and brainstormed opportunities for future collaboration with Kim and Purdue Polytechnic. Their meeting included a tour of the testbed laboratory at the Indiana Manufacturing and Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC) with Nathan Hartman, Dauch Family Professor of Advanced Manufacturing and director of IN-MaC.
Moon’s research spans multiple disciplines, integrating applied sciences, economic theory and artificial intelligence to advance the design of sustainable and customized products, services and systems. His expertise includes strategic and multidisciplinary design optimization, advanced modeling and simulation, design for additive manufacturing and 3D printing, embedded sensor development, digital twins, smart factories and digital manufacturing for supply chains.
Moon also serves as director of the Hyundai-NTU-A*STAR Corporate Lab, a S$58.6 million (approximately $45.6 million USD) initiative from September 2025 through August 2030 funded by the National Research Foundation and Hyundai Motor Group.
