Purdue casting club students, led by Polytechnic professor, awarded scholarships

All eight student members of Purdue University's American Foundry Society (AFS) Casting Club have each been awarded a $1,425 scholarship from the Northern Indiana Chapter of the AFS. The club is guided by Xiaoming Wang, a professor in Purdue Polytechnic’s School of Engineering Technology and Purdue's Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) key professor.

The scholarships were formally presented at the FEF scholarship night at the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana, on Nov. 10, 2025. The awards recognize the students' engagement in the field of metal casting and support the development of the future workforce for the foundry industry.

Among the scholarship recipients are two students from the School of Engineering Technology: Tiansui (Henning) Chu, a senior in mechanical engineering technology, and Joseph Huffman, a senior transferring into the electrical and computer engineering technology program.

The other awardees represent a diverse range of majors from across the university, including materials science engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and agriculture, highlighting the interdisciplinary appeal of the club's hands-on work. The AFS Casting Club operates out of the foundry located in Dudley Hall, which provides a hands-on learning environment for students interested in metal casting and manufacturing processes.
