Rustin Webster and Matthew Turner co-delivered the opening plenary lecture at the 2026 Capstone Design Conference, a national event that gathers educators and industry representatives to improve senior engineering courses.
Webster is an associate professor specializing in mechanical engineering and computer graphics technology, and Turner is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering technology. Both faculty members teach at Purdue Polytechnic's New Albany location. They joined Susannah Howe of Smith College on June 1 to present a decennial update of a longitudinal capstone design survey. The presentation examined national trends, practices, and outcomes in capstone programs.
"It was an honor to collaborate with outstanding colleagues and share our latest insights with a community committed to strengthening capstone education," Webster said. "High-quality capstone experiences are essential for preparing students to transition from the classroom to professional engineering practice."
The biennial conference took place at Texas A&M University from June 1 to June 3. The three-day forum features interactive panel sessions, poster presentations, workshops, and industry demonstrations.
