Purdue Polytechnic, the college for technology disciplines at Purdue, hosted an Industry and Research Day on April 2 in downtown Indianapolis' Skyline Club. It connected faculty researchers with corporate partners to explore technology and workforce development.
Daniel Castro, Purdue Polytechnic's dean, and David Umulis, senior vice provost for Purdue University in Indianapolis, spoke at the event, which featured faculty research showcases, rapid-fire lightning talks, and a poster session.
Focus areas were: artificial intelligence and data analytics; cybersecurity and infrastructure; advanced manufacturing; digital twins and spatial computing; and education innovation. Attendees heard from more than a dozen principal investigators from Purdue on their research in these areas. Topics included Shu Hu discussing methods for combating AI-generated fake multimedia, Ryan Case presenting a GIS analysis of drone operator reactions, and Suranjan Panigrahi explaining strategic approaches for integrating AI in manufacturing.
Justin Yang, associate dean for research, noted in an invitation to corporate partners that the event is designed to create a highly interactive environment. The goal is to foster dialogue that leads to tangible partnerships in research, talent development, and technological innovation.
This was the inaugural Industry and Research Day, and it will become a yearly occurrence for Purdue Polytechnic.
