Purdue Polytechnic researchers present research at premier human-computer interaction conference

Faculty and students from Purdue Polytechnic's School of Applied and Creative Computing (ACC) presented extensive research at the 2026 ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.

The annual event serves as the premier international forum for human-computer interaction research. Polytechnic researchers contributed eight papers, one workshop, one poster, and one interactive demo to the conference program.

The accepted projects cover research across systems design, accessibility, and emerging technologies. The presentations feature cross-level collaborations among undergraduate students, doctoral researchers, lecturers, and faculty members.

The School of Applied and Creative Computing contributions included:

Research papers

  • Anastasia Kouvaras Ostrowski authored a paper on technology and policy design. She also co-authored an award-winning paper on social robot privacy with assistant professor Rua Mae Williams and undergraduate student Avery Kruppe.
  • Rua Mae Williams authored an independent paper focused on disability and technology access.
  • Christos Mousas authored four accepted papers regarding virtual agents and human-computer interactions. His co-authors across these projects include professor Alejandra Magana, lecturer Eun Cho Smith, and doctoral students Syed Tanzim Mubarrat, Tianyu Shao, Fu-Chia Yang, and Siqi Guo.
  • Paul Parsons co-authored a paper on user experience design processes alongside doctoral students Ali Baigelenov and Prakash Shukla, and undergraduate student Jasmine (Phuong) Bui.

Workshops, posters, and demos

  • Rua Mae Williams led a conference workshop.
  • Anastasia Kouvaras Ostrowski presented a poster session on multi-robot coordination.
