Our digital lives consist of data and information. Industry and other organizations need to use that data and information to strengthen their decision-making processes, which means that they need information technology professionals who can enable, support and use data analytics and applications.
These analytics-enabled jobs create a need for information technology/computing professionals with the specialized knowledge required to enable and support data science and related applications. The Data Analytics, Technologies and Applications (DATA) major addresses the severe shortage of data information technology/computing professionals who can implement effective solutions in this analytics-driven space. Moreover, the DATA major can effectively prepare students for careers in which they understand and maximize data science insights or even support data collection and processing.
Students will:
- Develop strong foundations in statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Apply analytics approaches, techniques and tools to solve problems.
- Evaluate such approaches, techniques and tools for effective use.
