The Advanced Global Technology Minor prepares students to understand, analyze, and apply technology within international, cross-cultural, and geopolitical contexts. Designed specifically to complement Purdue Polytechnic's global engagement initiatives and international partnerships, the minor integrates global systems coursework with regionally aligned academic study and approved international experiences.

This minor is grounded in the recognition that technology does not operate in isolation. Engineering systems, digital platforms, aviation enterprises, manufacturing networks, construction infrastructure, and innovation ecosystems are shaped by policy environments, cultural frameworks, economic systems, and regional history. Students develop the ability to evaluate how regulatory structures, cultural norms, workforce practices, sustainability priorities, and geopolitical forces influence the design, deployment, and management of technology across global contexts.

The curriculum combines three integrated components:

1. Global Technology Foundations - coursework addressing technology policy, globalization, international systems, sustainability, and cross-cultural leadership.
2. Regionally Aligned Study - coursework selected to complement the student's international destination, providing historical, political, cultural, and economic context for the region of engagement.
3. Experiential Global Engagement - an approved study abroad, international research, or global experiential learning course through Purdue Polytechnic or a participating department.

Through this structured integration, students move beyond cultural exposure to develop advanced competencies in global systems thinking, cross-cultural collaboration, international project coordination, and technology strategy in diverse environments.

Requirements for the Minor (12-15 credits)

Part 1: Global Technology Foundation (3 credits)

• TECH 330 - Technology and the Global Society

Part 2: Approved International Experiences (3-6 credits)

• Polytechnic department-led study abroad course
  • Examples: TECH 28155, TECH 38155, TECH 48155, etc.

• Additional credit-bearing global experience

  • Department-led Study Abroad program from any college, OR
  • International Capstone course, OR
  • International Internship or Summer/Winter school, etc., OR
  • Full semester Exchange program

Part 3: Regional Academic Context (6 credits)

Complete two courses from the designated regional pathway aligned with your approved international experience(s) region of the world. Note: These courses must be chosen from the designated course lists for the region, and no test-out credit will be accepted.
