Soowon Chang, Ph. D received her Ph. D in Building Construction from Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). During her PhD, she worked on urban redevelopment projects in Tokyo for smart and connected communities supported by the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan. She received her B.S. in Architectural Engineering, B.A. in Management for Science and Technology, and M.S. in Architectural Engineering with emphasis on construction management from EWHA WOMANS UNIVERSITY, South Korea.
Her research revolves around paradigm shifts in human-urban-building interactions with intelligent applications of disruptive technologies in the future smart cities for decarbonization, health and safety, and social equity. She conducts research about (1) smart and connected communities considering urban systems networks; (2) generative design and planning systems by optimizing functional, spatial, and temporal performance; and (3) energy infrastructure transitions through spatiotemporal data-driven analytics.
As a teacher, her goal is to foster students contributing to society with professional and ethical awareness as well as a lifelong learning attitude. At Purdue University, the courses she offers focus on Computational Design Data and Interoperability, Building Information Management (BIM), Sustainability in Design, Construction, and Development, Building Energy Modeling, Comfort Analysis, Construction Modeling and Simulation, and Construction Management.
