1. What is the Smart Manufacturing Graduate Certificate?

The certificate is fully online, graduate-level credential designed for professionals who want to expand their skill set in Industry 4.0 technologies — covering areas like IoT, AI, data analytics, cybersecurity and sustainable systems for manufacturing environments.

2. Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited university. Graduate-level certificates are intended for individuals seeking academic credit and are ideal for professionals with prior relevant education.

3. How many credit hours are required?

The graduate certificate requires a total of nine credit hours to complete.

4. How long does it take to complete?

Since it’s based on credit hours, students typically finish within 3–5 semesters, depending on study pace and course availability.

5. Can I transfer the credits to a master’s degree?

Yes. The certificate credits often transfer into related graduate programs (e.g., MS in Engineering or Master of Business Administration(MBA)), if approved by the degree program.  All nine credit hours would transfer directly into the MS in Engineering Technology.

6. Can current Purdue master’s or MBA students earn this certificate?

Absolutely! Current online MBA or other master's degree seeking students can apply and count overlapping courses toward both their degree and the certificate.

11. How do I apply, and what's the fee?

Apply online, submitting transcripts, resume/VITA, and any additional materials like letters of recommendation. A non-refundable application fee is required (no waivers available).

12. Can Purdue alumni finish after their degree?

Yes —graduates who earned credits toward this certificate can complete it within five years post-graduation.

13. Is financial aid or employer support available?

Financial assistance (like loans or employer tuition benefits) may apply.  Students should consult Purdue’s financial aid office or employer programs for specific options.
