Deadlines

Eligibility Criteria

  • U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents of the United States.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the start of the program.
  • Current undergraduate (graduating seniors are not eligible).
  • Demonstrated interest and passion for active participation in ongoing research projects.
  • Preference will be given to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • Must be pursuing a major in a built environment-related* and/or as well as other STEM fields (e.g., Math, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Computer Science)
  • (preferred majors include architecture, architectural engineering, interior design/, construction management, construction engineering and management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, facilities management and other related fields).
  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours (equivalent to freshman year) by the end of Spring 2026.
  • Exceptions to the above (excluding the graduation and residency requirements) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

*The built environment-related fields include architecture, architectural engineering, interior design/, construction management, construction engineering and management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, facilities management and other related fields.

  • Personal Statement (minimum 500 words)
    • What do you hope to gain from this experience, and what is/are your objective(s) in participating in a research program?
    • What are your career plans after completing your undergraduate degree?
    • Describe any previous or current research experience.
    • Describe your research area(s) of interest within your field/major.
    • Provide any other relevant information (student organizations, leadership, employment, honors, awards, etc.) that will help the selection committee in their decision.
  • Two (2) Recommendation Letters (one letter at a minimum)
  • Recommendations should be provided by a professor or supervisor under whom you have studied, taught, worked and/or conducted undergraduate research. Your recommenders should be able to provide insight into your ability, potential and qualifications to succeed in a summer research program.

Review and Selection

All completed application packets will be carefully reviewed by the REU program directors and mentors.
