Engineering has a model, we have a PLM system, we use SysML, so aren't we done? The connection between the requirements definition and management systems, design and systems models, and in-situ monitoring of the product in the field is critical to successful business models. A key aspect of this approach is in the early stages of the lifecycle in keeping alignment between requirements data and product design and simulation data. Today, this often happens in silos with significant manual intervention. For example, someone could make a change to the CAD models and the requirements management role does not get updated, or finding a happy medium between SysML and new, visually-oriented ways of interacting with complex system interactions, while gaining usage across more product teams.  How then, should a digital thread be implemented to maintain alignment of requirements and deliverables through product lifecycle?
