Program Overview

The Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) program at Purdue University is threefold, consisting of a lecture, lab and PT (physical training.)  As an underclassman or “GMC” (General Military Course), cadets have class 1x/week… plus a 2-hour lab Thursday morning and PT 2x/week.  (As an upperclassman, the lecture bumps up to 2x/week.)  We are ultimately preparing cadets for Field Training, which is a 3-week “boot camp” at Maxwell Air Force Base that occurs the summer after their sophomore year.  In order to compete for a spot, cadets must be medically qualified (which is standard for anyone who wants to serve in the military)… pass a fitness assessment… and pass the AFOQT (Air Force Officer Qualifying Test.)  Upon their return, cadets are considered “POC” (Professional Officer Course) and are now responsible for leading the GMC.
