"Racing toward Indy 500 dreams: Purdue alum Bill Pappas turned his love for racing into a storied career with IndyCar" by Joel Meredith
Bill Pappas, a 1983 mechanical engineering technology graduate, has been part of two Indianapolis 500 victories — including serving as chief engineer during Juan Pablo Montoya’s win in 2000. Today, Pappas is vice president of competition and race engineering for the IndyCar series.

#1 most doctoral degrees granted to Black graduate students in Engineering-Related Technology
During the five-year period that ended in spring 2020, Purdue conferred the most doctoral degrees to Black graduate students in engineering-related technology and several other disciplines, as compared with its peer R1 research institutions nationally and in the Big Ten.
