AMR/Cobot Bin Picking and Kitting

Manual bin picking and kitting operations from the client, Cummins, are a key process in ensuring that the correct components are delivered to the assembly station in the correct order and quantity. Due to the challenges of low efficiency, human fatigue, possible injury, and numerous errors in traditional logistics methods such as box picking and kitting operations, the client requires a flexible, intelligent, and safe robotic solution. This is because traditional robots are unable to adapt to different geometric shapes of parts and recognize different models of parts, resulting in costly downtime and operating costs. By combining a UR ER-Flex Cobot with an advanced vision recognition system, it can improve the accuracy of the logistic system, increase productivity, reduce repetitive actions for workers, and reduce costs.

Problem Statement/Summary

Cummins' current box picking and kitting operations are inefficient, prone to errors, and lead to worker fatigue. Additionally, single parts, which can be oily or entangled, must be picked out, slowing throughput. Furthermore, groups of parts must be carried to a bagging station and routed to the correct workstation. These repetitive manual steps slow production and increase the chance of errors and injury.
